Call for Abstracts

The Scientific Programme Committee invites you to submit an abstract for consideration in the programme. Both Physicians and Trainees, may submit abstracts to be considered for presentation at the IMSANZ NZ Conference 2026. All abstracts will be reviewed by the committee for inclusion in the oral presentations and poster sessions at the conference.

There are limited spaces available in the programme and ALL presentations, oral and poster, will be in-person only.

​Please note: 
  1. The submitter of the abstract must be the presenter at the conference.
  2. The submitter must have the permission of all authors to present the research.
  3. The submitter must register to attend the full conference and pay the appropriate fee.

General Information

​All abstracts should be original research. Broadly this could also include an audit, a case report, or a description of a new innovation in health services delivery or education. However, the onus is on the author to demonstrate the significance of any work offered for this conference. All presenters must register, attend and pay the appropriate fee to be eligible to present at the conference.
Presentation Options
Oral Presentations
​​If you are selected to present an oral presentation you will need to prepare a 15 minute talk (including Q&A).

You must present in-person.

You will be required to submit your presentation (PPT) electronically for loading online by 5.00pm (NZT) Wednesday 18 February 2026. Details on the specific requirements will be provided in the confirmation information.

The Abstract Review Committee may offer you a Poster Presentation if they are unable to offer you an Oral Presentation.

Poster Presentations
All Posters will be presented in-person.
​
The poster panels will be velcro-sensitive and measure 1189mm high by 841mm wide (A0 portrait size). The poster can be laminated or cloth and the text should be in a font of sufficient size for easy reading at a distance of 1 metre. You will also need to submit a poster for viewing by delegate attending virtually.

You will be required to hang your poster by 5.00pm on Wednesday 4 March 2026 or by 8.30am Thursday 5 March 2026. You will need to stand beside your poster on Thursday between 12.30pm and 1.00pm to answer any delegate questions. You need to remove your poster between 1.30pm and 3.30pm on Friday 6 March 2026.

Additionally, you will be required to submit an electronic poster for loading by 5.00pm (NZT) Wednesday  18 February 2026. Details on the specific requirements will be provided in the confirmation information.


IMSANZ De Zoysa Trainee Award

This Trainee Prize is awarded for the best oral presentation by an IMSANZ Trainee Member at the New Zealand IMSANZ Meeting. Dr Neil De Zoysa and his family donated funds to support the IMSANZ De Zoysa Trainee Prize in support of research and medical education.
 
The De Zoysa family have a demonstrated commitment to medical education in their home country of Sri Lanka. The tradition of donation has continued through the current generation. The contribution of physicians and trainee physicians in research is invaluable for the future of medicine and the standard of presentations for the Award continues to be of a high standard over the years.

Prize is NZD$1,000.00

Submissions may be accepted from students, registrars and trainees who are members of IMSANZ and have not won this award previously. To be eligible for the IMSANZ Award supported by the De Zoysa Family, you must be:
  • A member of IMSANZ (and paid your subscription at least 10 days prior to the conference)
  • A trainee, registrar or medical student (intending to be an Internal medicine trainee or complementary specialty)
  • Not previously won this award

Also note that:
  • The submitter of the abstract must be the presenter at the conference.
  • The submitter must have the permission of all authors to present the research.
  • The submitter must register to attend the full conference and pay the appropriate fee.

Abstract Format

Follow the online instructions.
Please ensure you use the format below to write your abstract. DO NOT include the abstract title or authors.  

Abstract Text: The abstract should be in the form of bolded structured headings (with blank line spaces between each section) as follows:
Aims: Write your aims here.
Methods: Write your methods here.
Results: Write your results here.
Conclusions and/or Clinical Practice Point: Write your conclusion here.

References: References may be included either “inline” in the abstract text or in a list following the abstract. The style of the references should follow either the Harvard or APA method.

If you are submitting a case study, please use case, discussion, conclusion and/or clinical practise point

The general specifications are:
• The maximum length of the abstract, including references, is 300 words.
• Abbreviations may be used but must be spelt out in full at the first mention followed by the abbreviation in parentheses.
• Do not include graphs, tables or images
