Nic grew up in the North of England, and gained his undergraduate degree in medicine from the University of Aberdeen. He completed his higher specialist training in Diabetes/Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine in the South West of England. He moved to New Zealand in 2002, taking up his role in Rotorua on the basis of a telephone interview, and bringing with him his wife and young family. Nic has held a number of leadership roles within Lakes DHB, and is currently the clinical director of Medicine and the Emergency Department. He has been a member of the diabetes subcommittee of Pharmac since 2007. He has an active interest in medical education spanning both undergraduate training as the Academic Co-ordinator for the University of Auckland FMHS at Lakes DHB, and post-graduate training as the Director of Physician Education. In spare time he is an enthusiastic (sometimes overly enthusiastic) mountain biker.
